Back in 2013, I spent 2 weeks traveling across Ireland with my family and testing out my new, to me at least, Nikon D7000 camera. I was pleasantly surprised that even years after graduation from the Fine Arts Center, I still focused on composition, colors, and design. So I decided to enter the 2013 National Geographic Photo Contestant, and was shocked when my submission “Connemara Ponies at Dusk” was selected by the editors as one of their favorites and included in the Spontaneous Moments Week 1 Gallery. You’d think something like that would be a motivator but instead I just putzed
So what’s this post really about? Recommitting to picking up my camera in 2016.
I’ve admittedly neglected my photography and creative side over the past decade as I’ve been focused on my career. I guess that’s always the excuse. My 1.5 hour commute, filled with communal suffering on the DC metro and MARC trains, left me exhausted, angry, and uninspired. Now that I’m seven months into living in Australia, my commute has gone from 1.5 hours to 10 minutes and I’m finding way more time for other interests like travel, photography, cooking, and actually getting outdoors again. Life is good!
Most of my photography is on 500px or NatGeo Your Shot but I’ll also be posting to my Photography board on Pinterest:
